Life in "Wicked Doomsday Cult"

Hat tip to both Gavin and Felix for continuing to bring Benjamin Grant Mitchell's story to light.  He recently was featured on the Australian version of "Inside Edition."  Check out the video about growing up in the the Worldwide Church of God, where it is rightly referred to as a "Wicked Doomsday Cult."

The video is here:  "Neighbours" star's dark secret

Mitchell tells of his siblings death and his grandmother who both died because of the church teachings. His father was a WCG minister until he ended  up in Pasadena and got to witness first hand the corruption.  Disfellowshipment loomed and they were exiled and shunned.

Some of the die-hard Armstrongites who saw the show are none too pleased and drop the proverbial COG mantra: "Just get over it."

The creepy thing for me watching that clip was listening to Herbert bellow from the stage and from his radio/tv broadcasts in his bombastic know-it-all "authoritative" voice.  I could feel my stomach muscles start to tighten at that sound! I guess that stems from too many years of having to sit there and listen to him bellow and vomit his crap all over us year in and year out.

Benjamin's blog and book information is here: The Last Great Day

Lying : A Cooperative Act

Think of the Church of God as you hear this.  While it is not directed towards the liars in religion, it very well could be.  The Church of God has been founded upon lies.  From Herbert Armstrong's dealings with the COG7th Day, in his writings in his autobiography and into his literal readings of scriptures. From Rod Meredith, Weinland's and Pack's absurd prophecies to the lying drunkard in Edmond Oklahoma.  Lying has always been part of our culture in the COG's and still is to this day.

Dennis Diehl - EzineArticles Expert AuthorThere is evidently no comparison between the number of good folk who take the time to comment or invest in the thought processes necessary to comment on the various postings with regards to the WCG experience and all the abiding fall out, and those that quietly lurk.

As far as I can tell, there may be a total of 20 or so regular responders to any or all of the topics presented here, which despite the discomfort level some provoke, are here to help those sincerely wanting to break the ties and live in a bigger box than the one provided by the splinters and slivers in the COG remnants.  As you can see, many hundred more just "lurk."

I understand lurking.  We want to believe something is true and yet we have a niggly feeling in our souls that all might not be as presented. We dismiss the feeling and yet sometimes we just have to keep up with the other points of view that sometimes seem more right.  Perhaps they must make us think.

I understand very well how "loyalty" can keep you from being more honest or speaking up in one's church.  I also understand sitting in an audience that I am supposed to have everything in common with, listening to everything from announcements to sermonettes and sermons and quietly telling myself, "this is such bullshit, but maybe next week will be something that inspires me."   I've listened to the big plans of the bigger church for preaching their gospel and thought, "that won't work," or "Jeez, if Jesus is about to return soon, what's with building a college with a spiffy multimillions dollar price, coming out of my pocket not theirs?  Is that not holding two opposing views in one sentence?"

How many times were you assured that when people see our new headquarters, they will come to the truth because they will see how God himself plants trees and flowers, plays sports, dresses and honors the guru!  I bet not one person ever came into any church because of the quality of the cover.  Unfortunately they do come because of the seeming truth of the contents, if they don't ever do any further homework on the matter.

So why do people "Lurk"?  These are just my opinions, but judging from the numbers, I would bet every COG minister, Prophet, Priest, Apostle and Witness stops in from time to time.  It's just too hard not to.  I imagine a good number of FOT goers are reading this right now :)

IMHO COGers lurk because:

They are not quite sure they are getting the whole story at Church
They have the same doubts and fears about trusting just one guy to tell them how it all is.
As a teen in the "Church my parents go to,"  I 'd like to know if there is something I am needing to consider before i give my life resources to such ideas.
As a minister, I ignored the problems I saw in the Armstrong's, the Tkaches and whoever to my harm and I won't ignore this guy and the unease he sometimes causes me.
I am a true believer and hate this blog and sometimes just can't help but let them know how wrong they are.
I find it difficult to let go of the experience without at least learning what went wrong and why I allowed myself to live in such a small theological world.  (This is ME)
I'm mad as hell and I'm not takin' it any more!
I find comfort in knowing others think as I do as I reflect on this whole experience
I want to know what's being said but I don't want to know what's being said, but i do want to know what's being said, but I will act like I don't know what's being said because what's being said is disturbing to my status quo.
I used to be able to say whatever I wanted as a minister or member and never got called out on it but NOW I have to see what's being said about me.
I didn't know there were so many interesting other ways to see the Bible, its origins or politics and I like this place.
I don't feel so cut off from my experience even though I have lost all church friends and feel depressed when don't stay in touch
I'd like to say something or comment, but it might get back to my church.
If I do say something its not going to be anonymous, but if I do otherwise, it might get back to my church.
Lurking is my hobby
Lurking is safer than speaking up
I'm afraid of my minister, friends, Jesus, God or even Satan finding out I lurk.
I don't know why I lurk. It's a bad habit but I just can't stop doing it.
Lurking rocks!  I lurk at church, work and at Wal-mart, so why not here?
I love lurking to see what the jerks, fools, buttheads and reprobates are saying now!
I feel more true and holy lurking with those that will be fuel for the Lake of Fire

Well I think we get the point.  On top of that we might ask why do most who speak up do so without letting others know who they really are?  See above I guess.  Some like to snipe but never want it known where the shot came from.  Others have to have the last word I'm sure.  It's all very interesting.

I think lurking is also a sign of the struggle most have with being authentically themselves, no matter the belief or experience, and belonging to an organization where they all have to speak the same thing, which of course, has never truly happened nor is possible in reality in the history of church.  It's an illusion and of course no one ever would believe that members 'all THINK the same thing."  Sooner or later one is confronted with "I'm sitting down on the outside Mr. Minister, but I am standing up on the inside."

So, for all who lurk...

Authenticity is the alignment of head, mouth, heart, and feet - thinking, saying, feeling, and doing the same thing - consistently. This builds trust, and followers love leaders they can trust.

That inner voice has both gentleness and clarity. So to get to authenticity, you really keep going down to the bone, to the honesty, and the inevitability of something.
The accusation that we've lost our soul resonates with a very modern concern about authenticity.
We need to find the courage to say NO to the things and people that are not serving us if we want to rediscover ourselves and live our lives with authenticity.

I've always told people who are at crossroads or have to make a choice or decision about something of consequence to ask, "How does this serve me?"  I realize in the WCG/COG experience, and perhaps even as one reads the Bible, "Me" never counts and we are all to love other's better than ourselves.  I always wondered if that is true...what are the others who are loved supposed to do!

It always pays to ask "How does this serve me?"   If the answer is helpful to your growth and understanding then good on ya!   If it helps move you along the path a little further or give you the courage to be yourself and finding that just fine and ok, then good on ya!   I suppose even if it makes you feel superior to the fools who comment on this blog,  good on you for now I suppose.

The Karma Fairy also has a habit of lurking...  :)

Can I get an "Amen"?

The Story of Bruce and the Worldwide Church of God/Armstrongism

Douglas has a poignant post on DNA Refutes British Israelism about a former WCG member who experienced first hand the "brotherly love" of the ministry and members after years of dedicated service.  It is appalling and utterly disgusting what the church and the members did to this guy. You can read the entire article here:  Cult Life: Bruce

Bruce felt the world was screwed up, and coupled with his being highly religious, he went on a quest to both find a religion and to satisfy his desire to prove the world at large wrong. He tried some rather fringe cultic types of Christian congregational churches with political leanings, but it wasn't until he listened to the World Tomorrow on Radio that he connected with his new religious reality.

Ambassador College, the Radio Church of God, The Plain Truth and Herbert Armstrong had an answer for everything in a neat package, and in 1962, he took the plunge. He had significant savings he had stored up over the years -- enough that he could afford to do what he wanted for several years without having to work because he was industrious, prudent with his money and frugal.

This was perfect for this particular British Israelism Cult: A man with money they could rip off.
Bruce impressed the college entrance personnel and started at Ambassador College in 1962. A year later, Garner Ted Armstrong told him that Bruce should seek to serve the work elsewhere: His technical interests were getting in the way of his path to becoming the smarmy picture perfect plastic minister material they were looking for.

Bruce left and worked "out in the world". He settled into a church area in the Pacific Northwest and found a job making plenty of money from repairing cameras -- a result of just one of his technical hobbies of photography, building telescopes from scratch for astronomy, rock collecting and polishing, building electronics including high end amplifiers and phonographs replete with speakers. Everything he did was quality.

Bruce was generous, and besides "loaning" tens of thousands of dollars to the Radio Church of God at another crisis brought on by the profligate spending of the cult leader, he also gave people stuff. He gave them jewelry he had made, polished rocks (some with more than sentimental value), loaned people high fidelity collections -- he gave freely and generously. He also loaned over 6,000 quality 35mm slides he had taken over the years to Ambassador College and many of them were used for the front cover of The Plain Truth and The Good News.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, Bruce was temporarily unemployed. Though he was a bachelor, he had a nice apartment with several bedrooms. A family in the cult had a husband and father who was also out of work and needed a place for a family of five to stay, so Bruce, not wanting to......

Prophet Thiel is all ticked off today about satan and demons.  Particularly when they are attached to astrology and prophecy.

Given the abysmal failure of literally hundreds of failed prophecies in Armstrongism, uttered from HWA down through Meredith, Flurry, Pack, Weinland, Coulter, Cox and others, Thiel fails to pay heed to his own words of warning.  How many more lies does Meredith and crew need to utter before he wakes up?

How can you tell whether someone is truly a minister of God, and not someone controlled by the occult world? Deuteronomy gives us a key. “If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying, ‘Let us go after other gods’; which you have not known; ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the Lord your God is testing you to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice, and you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him” (Deuteronomy 13:1–4).

A false minister or prophet may even prophesy accurately concerning some sign or wonder. But God says that if he leads you after other gods—if he leads you away from the God of the Bible and the true Jesus Christ of your Bible—then he is a false prophet. Notice also that God may be testing you, to see if you will be faithful to His word and to His way of life!

Obviously Thiel believes that COG prophets CAN make false prophecies or utter things that do not come to pass as long as they are directing people towards their "TRUE" god.

He then goes on to say

There are many false prophecies and predictions these days.  Some from demons, some from astrology, and some from imagination.  But many have occult connections.  Many will be deceived from false prophecies claimed to be related to 2012
Thousands of false utterances occur every week in Armstrongism.  I guess it is pesky little demons that are causing those false words. Is it a demon who is causing Meredith to lie?

Thiel then starts blabbering on about Anton Levy and his Church of Satan in regards to birthdays. Do you not realize that when you keep your birthday or a loved one's birthday you are bowing at the altar of Satan?  The next thing you know you will be sacrificing your children on the Chruch of Satan altar........

New Commands For TRUE Believers: Temporary Dwellings, Waving Palms, Pouring Water

It is Feast time and the COG's are scattering all over the globe for this annual observance.  But there are a few reprobates who are staying home if they live in the local Feast areas.  The Apostle Malm says that if you do, you are NOT acceptable to God.

He then goes on to how you should be waving palms and branches during the feast and also pouring out water as you dance around the room.

If you are staying in your houses for the Feast you are NOT observing the Feast and your attempts to do things your own way, instead of as God has commanded are NOT acceptable to God.

I know that because of poverty or illness or great age not all of us can travel, yet we must make every effort to obey God and keep the Feast as God has commanded.   I also know that it is quite acceptable to build a Sukkot,  booth or pitch a tent in your back yard or even in your basement if you live in an area of extreme weather.  I am also aware of the needs of the ill and the aged.  Notwithstanding; every possible effort should be made to dwell in a temporary shelter for the full seven days.

You also need to be shaking tree branches or waving palms during the Feast:

Here we have a direct command to take branches and to rejoice with them for seven days.  How many times have you done that in the years that you have kept the Feast?  Does your organization obey this command of Almighty God?  if not they are losing out on a valuable lesson and much understanding of the meaning of this Feast.

What does this command mean?  Boughs or branches of goodly [healthy, beautiful or strong] trees are to be cut on the very first day, the High Holy day of this Feast and we are to rejoice with them for seven days.  The palm and willow are specifically mentioned, however we are NOT told that these branches are limited to the palm and willow. We are NOT told to build our booths out of these branches, although Nehemiah thought that such was the intent of Moses, before Christ came to reveal the real intent of the command, Neh 8.

We are to rejoice with them.  Why are we to take branches of trees and rejoice [wave or shake] them?  Because of what they represent!

In the ancient celebration, on each day of the Feast of Tabernacles, the people in the Temple courtyard would hold the clusters of branches, waving them before the LORD and make a circular procession around the altar. The first six days they would circle the altar once. On the seventh days, they would circle the altar seven times, to increase the joy.

During the procession they would pray a prayer that came to be known as Hoshanos. It is a prayer for God’s blessing, ending each phrase of the prayer with the word hoshana (“Please save”, “save us” or “save now!”). For this reason, the last day came to be known as Hoshana Rabba, meaning the Day of the Great ‘O Save’.

Each day (except for the first day) of the festival, a group of priests would set out to gather large willows that they would wave back and forth as they proceeded toward the temple, thus making a “swooshing” sound, the sound of the wind or the Ruach, Holy Spirit.

While this was going on, another group of priests would proceed to the Pool of Siloam from which the High Priest would gather a flask full of “living water”.

On the first Holy day and the regular Sabbath water was obtained the previous day and then poured out on the high Day and regular Sabbath. Both groups would then return to the Temple, and while the group with the willows would circle the altar waving their willows, the High Priest with his flask of water and his assistant with a flask of wine would both empty their pitchers on the southwest corner of the altar, thus picturing the coming of the Holy Spirit as living water.

Dennis On the "Schizo-God?"

There are more and more Christians around the world that question a God that is of such violence in the Old Testament vs the God of the New Testament that dwells more in grace and love. They question how they can reconcile the God of violence with the God of grace and love they promote to the world around them.  When they are called on the carpet for that, they do not have good answers.

Sure there is the standard response, but the people of the world do not care for "standard responses" but want a reason in light of the troubles in the world today as to how it relates to their lives in the 21st century.

Armstrongism has always been attracted to the god of violence over the God of grace. It seems like the church has always been attracted to a god that metes of violence and punishment for all that disagree with them. In fact many COG leaders [Meredith, Flurry, Pack, Weinland] want to see the world suffer, by having the world suffer proves them to be right.  The want to see "pagan" Christians tortured and killed, they want to see their enemies punished severely.  Just look at Malm's tirades against "love."

What Dennis has written is something to think about and perhaps kick start your thinking about what kind of God you believe in - if you do.

Schizo-God?

Dennis Diehl - EzineArticles Expert AuthorThe Jesus of the New Testament loves little children and reminds the adults in his crowds that unless they become like little children, they shall never see the Kingdom of God. In the New Testament, Jesus blesses little children and chides the adults who try to run interference between him and them. Jesus even raises children from the dead in compassion for them and their grieving parents.

In Church I learned to sing, "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world."

I also learned to sing that "Jesus loves me, this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to him belong. They are weak but he is strong."

I also learned, over the years, that we were only talking about the Jesus of the New Testament, minus the Book of Revelation and a few other rather threatening comments by Apostles in the name of Jesus, towards humans contained in various books of the New Testament. Since most Christian churches teach that Jesus is God and "the God of the Old Testament," we do have wonder what brought about Jesus' own repentance over the hideous things that He, as God in the Old Testament, is recorded to have done.

The New Testament clearly teaches that Jesus, somehow, is considered to have been God in eternal reality before he was Jesus in the flesh.

John 8:
56 "Your father Abraham rejoiced at the thought of seeing my day; he
saw it and was glad."
57 "You are not yet fifty years old," the Jews said to him, "and you
have seen Abraham!"
58 "I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I
am!"
1 Corinthians 8:6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things
came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ,
through whom all things came and through whom we live.
Philippians 2:5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God
something to be grasped,
7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being
made in human likeness.
Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all
creation.
16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth,
visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were
created by him and for him.
17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

These are among a few of the New Testament scriptures that equate the man Jesus of the New Testament with being God of the Old, Creator and Sustainer of all things from the beginning. So by default, this would  be both the Jesus who first killed with abandon "all the little children of the world" who got in Israel's way, including the women, unborn babies and animals on most occasions, and the Jesus of the New Testament who simply loved all the little children of the world, red and yellow, black and white. They are precious in his sight." Truly a God in the flesh that had changed a lot.
The Jesus of the Book of Revelation goes back to his people killing ways. The Jesus of Revelation wipes out whole swaths of humanity who get in his way and the in the way of his chosen ones. He drips in blood and loves to have it so.  Run children run!!! A familiar Old Testament theme. Why does God or Jesus never hold seminars on their existence and plan for humans that we can all attend without all the drama and slaughter to get us all to obey? Oh well, I'm not God, that's for sure.  There is a way that seems right to me, but my ways don't count.
Some would argue that Jesus was God the Son, the second part of a three God Trinity, that is really only one God and that God the Father God was responsible for this slaughter. It is one God in three aspects, which is hooey but the New Testament Jesus would never have understood it either. If Jesus was the Lord of the Old Testament, he certainly has morphed into a nice guy since then. The God of the Old Testament was one cruel man, woman, child, suckling and animal killing freak. The Sabbath School song of the God of the Old Testament would have been, "Jesus hates the little children, all the children of the world. If they ain't from Israel, He will send them all to hell. Hacking-whacking all the children of the world," instead of the Sunday School one we know so well evidently.

Let's take a look at how Jesus , as God the Son perhaps, treated all the children of the world back in the Old Testament

Jericho is destroyed by Jesus as God:

Joshua 6:20,21
20 "So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the
people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people raised a great shout,
and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city,
every man straight before him, and they took the city.
21 Then they utterly destroyed ALL in the city, both men and women,
young and old, oxen, sheep, and asses"
Way to go! Jericho was a real estate need that the Israelites had and young men and maidens, old men and children, and let's throw in the animals too, had to go. Butchered all. Jesus loves the little children! Let's keep looking.

The Kingdom of Sihon destroyed by Jesus as God.

Deuteronomy 2: 33-35
33 "And the LORD our God gave him over to us; and we defeated him and
his sons and all his people.
34 And we captured all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed
every city, men, women, and children; we left none remaining;
35 only the cattle we took as spoil for ourselves, with the booty of
the cities which we captured."
So here we have Jesus as God killing all the humans but now allowing the sparing of the cattle for booty. This topic of booty is going to get even better as Israelite men become discouraged over killing everything in site, including the babes. It seems the rules of engagement changed as the women got better looking, but the children always got the axe.

Now it gets better.

Deuteronomy 20: 10-17
10 "When you draw near to a city to fight against it, offer terms of
peace to it.
11 And if its answer to you is peace and it opens to you, then all the
people who are found in it shall do forced labor for you and shall
serve you.
12 But if it makes no peace with you, but makes war against you, then
you shall besiege it.
13 And when the LORD your God gives it into your hand you shall put all
its males to the sword,
14 but the women and the little ones, the cattle, and everything else
in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as booty for yourselves; and
you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the LORD your God has
given you."
Here's a deal that Jesus God of the Old Testament offers during war. Surrender and you can be our slaves and do forced hard labor for us forever. If you don't surrender, then all the men get the axe, but new rules for women and children. Now the children go into forced labor, no doubt and the women get kept to enjoy! Shake your booty!! The rules are a changin!

Numbers 31:14-18
14 And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains
over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.
15 And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of
Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and
there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
17 Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every
woman that hath known man by lying with him.
18 But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with
him, keep alive for yourselves.

We have to assume here that Moses is speaking for Jesus and passing on the ways of God to the men of Israel. He's a bit ticked that he's caught the men not killing all the women as instructed and so Moses says, with Jesus, Lover of little children's permission, to kill all the "little ones," and the non-virgin women. How one figures this out I guess we don't even want to know. At any rate, good news! The guys can keep the virgins for themselves as sex partners! Yeah Jesus, lover of all the children of the world! With grateful hearts, no doubt, they can now kill and have great sex with the booty. We have to assume the term "women children" means little virgin girls. Ewwww... Oh well, these are Jesus God of the Old Testament's rules of how we "suffer the little the children to come unto me, for of such is the Kingdom of heaven," at this time in history, so NO arguing.

It seems that the God of the Old Testament, Jesus before his incarnation was not so much against abortion as long as the fetus had actually been born first and started life as someone's dear child. There are scriptures of commands to kill women with child, but I spare you. I don't think there was any discussion in these times as to when life began. It was all about when and how to end it if it got in the way of the progress of God's chosen people.

Even in the New Testament, where Mary, mother of baby Jesus is told to flee before Herod kills all the children under two years old, she just leaves town with Jesus saying nothing! Do these people not know how to warn their neighbors! Did Mary saunter out of town with baby Jesus singing, "I know something you don't know..Have a nice last Sabbath." I guess only your own Bible babies are important and others can just go fish.

Not very pleasant stuff. Somewhere along the line, Jesus changed from a killer without conscience to a lover of little children, commanding his disciples to " forbid them not, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven." Perhaps the story of Jesus coming to John the Baptist for baptism unto repentance has meaning after all.

Christians puzzle over this as the perfect Jesus of the New Testament would never need to repent of anything to be baptized of John. So as the texts evolve, we see that it finally ends up that Jesus was not really baptized for his sins unto repentance but merely did it for our example of what WE should do. I never killed thousands however. From Mark to John, one can see the evolution of the text and how this embarrassment of anyone thinking that Jesus had to repent of anything and be baptized for his sins was dealt with.

But maybe Jesus knew (I don't personally believe he thought he was God in the Flesh) something about his own past? Perhaps being the merciless infant, child and woman killer as God of the Old Testament, got to him after all. Of course, I am being a bit theologically off here and a bit tongue in cheek, but maybe Jesus as God did feel a need to repent so as to be able to explain the change in his past behaviors. There is no record of anyone in the early church asking him or the Apostles about this change from killer God to Jesus loves all the children of the world God. Perhaps he said, "ask me that again and I'll kill ya." End of discussion.

This Jesus God of the Old Testament might explain a few things that seem pretty common in our modern era. Killing old men, women and children has not changed much in the land of the Israelites. I think the armies that once got to keep the booty still get to feel women and children are fair game when it comes to killing what gets in the way of their progress and real estate needs. In the same way, Christians with certain leanings seem to forget the Jesus of the New Testament Gospels and revert to the Jesus of the Old or at best the Jesus of the Book of Revelation to conquer in his name, those pagans who get in their "Go ye therefore into all the world" way. So there is a God for every taste and need it seems yet today.

Actually it's pretty darn difficult to explain why the Bible is the "best book ever written," when in fact it is one of the most violent, repulsive, clannish, cultish and bloody books ever written. The rules of engagement never favored the innocent and certainly not the non-Israelite, and we would have to admit that if indeed the Jesus of the New Testament was the "God of the Old Testament" before he came on the human scene, he has changed a lot in the text and in his behaviors. Perhaps endless war and killing does that to a God.
Be nice if it did this to humans.

Idiots In The Pulpit: Do You Need A Holy Ghost Enema Before The Feast?

This still has to be my favorite idiot pretending to be a minister.  Only someone associated with Benny Hinn could be this stupid!  She since has divorced Benny, so have to wonder if she still believes this garbage?

GCI Allows Members To Hold Regular Feast of Tabernacles

Grace Communion International is allowing those  members in their midst who still hold on to all things HWA taught to keep a traditional Feast of Tabernacles in Monrovia this year.  It is set up to run on the "official" dates of the Feast that other COGlets are keeping.

GCI also set up a Feast of Trumpets observance here in Southern CA for those members who want to keep it too.  The silly thing is that the minister that spoke at is is a New Covenant minister who does not believe in keeping Trumpets.  Why in the world the die-hard Armstrongites in GCI's midst would sit in a service on their Feast of Trumpets, which they believe is to be observed, and then to be preached at by a non-believer is beyond me.  There is something wrong with that picture!

These people are still of the belief that God personally placed them in the WCG under HWA and that they are to remain true to the church where they were placed.  They think they are preserving the faith once delivered and many have the hope that things will switch back to the old ways and they will then be used as instruments to teach the lax laodicean heretics on how things really should be kept.

Prophet Thiel wants you to know what an important scientist he is.  He claims he is the first scientist since WWII to have his article published in a major medical journal about synthetic vitamins versus natural food vitamins.  His pomposity reminds me of  Samuelle Bacchiocchi who loved to brag that he was the first Sabbath keeper allowed to use the Vatican archives and have a book published by them about the sabbath.

I guess we are supposed to be groveling at the Prophet's feet now.

And when I say that nearly all multi-vitamins sold are synthetic, yes, I mean nearly all sold in health food stores and through multi-level marketing groups.  Those that buy them are normally deceived,  FWIW, I am the first scientist since WWII to have a paper published in a major medical journal explaining why food vitamins are superior to the synthetics that the mainstream supports (this can be found at www.healthresearch.com).

For some reason Prophet Thiel has to use vitamins as a segue into TRUE Christan's keeping the Feast of Tabernacles.  If you are not already or about to be keeping it, you are filthy, low life pagans who are going to suffer horribly when the Germans take over this country and throw you into concentration camps!

For being such a preeminent world renown scientist you would think he would have to brains to see that he is part of a man made religion too!

Of course, most of what passes for Christianity by the mainstream is also human-developed.  If you are not about to (or actually) observing the Feast of Tabernacles now, you are not following the practices of the Bible and early Christians, but instead relying on human-developed alternatives to biblical Christianity.  And while synthetic vitamins are dangerous physically, false religion is more dangerous spiritually.

Feast Clothing

What the well dressed Flurryite will be wearing at the Feast this year:

Admit it, don't you want one!!!!!!
Just think how great it will be wearing this as you watch the World Series or a football game as satan takes away your salvation!

LCG: World Series, World Cup Dangerous To Your Salvation

Doug Winnail from Living Church of God has some guidelines on what is dangerous to your salvation.  We are not talking about those demonic Smurfs and My Little Ponies that are running around inserting demons in your children.  Nope, we are talking about the evilness of the World Cup and the World Series.  If you spend time watching those events then you are in danger of losing your salvation!

Watch and Be Ready! The God we worship is a God of love who has revealed the future to those He has called to serve Him (Amos 3:7; Genesis 18:17). Jesus repeatedly warned His disciples to be watchful and alert as the end of the age approaches. He stated that we should avoid getting caught up in the cares of this world—parties, material pursuits, the World Series, World Cup events, political contests, personal concerns, and other things that get our minds off the big picture (Matthew 24:37-39; Mark 13:33-37; Luke 21:34-36).

Why Is The COG Blinded To It's Own False Prophets?

Prophet Thiel has up a post mocking the followers of Harold Camping again.  Camping has predicted again, the the end is coming on October 21st of this year.  We all got to witness the failure of his previous announcement earlier this year.  We saw the lives destroyed by it.  Thiel is at least right that we will see him fail again on October 21.

Thiel rightly points out the obvious failures and how we should not support such false prophets:

But Jesus cannot return on October 21, 2011 and it was not God who led Harold Camping to that false May 21, 2011 date.

This will be at least the third time that Harold Camping will be proven wrong.   Back in May 2011, both the Washington Post and MSNBC linked to my article Harold Camping’s Teachings About the End of the World Do Not Agree with the Bible to provide documented biblical reasons for his errors.  Of course, he is likely to get less publicity this month than he did last May.

Basically, because he seemingly prefers his own imaginations to the truth of the Bible, Harold Camping seems to me to load one misleading calculation onto other misleading information to get to the wrong answer. He should not be listened to by those that actually believe the Bible.

How conveniently Thiel ignores the hundreds of failed false prophecies that Herbert Armstrong, Rod Meredith, Herman Hoeh, Dean Blackwell, Gerald Waterhouse and others have uttered in the past.  These do not even include the mind numbingly STUPID current predictions by Weinland, Pack and Steven's!

Thiel continues:

The iniquity of false prophets such as Harold Camping and others (like some with the Mayan 2012 date) will turn various people off about prophecy (Ronald Weinland also comes to mind). More will feel comfortable being scoffers (Harold Camping has caused atheists to rejoice and mock). And this rise of scoffers who will not believe in prophecy is also foretold in the Bible by the Apostle Peter:
So what about  the iniquities of false prophet Rod Meredith which have turned people off and destroyed lives?  People mock Meredith today because of his lies.  If Thiel really took his Bible seriously and did as his scriptures tell him, then he would reject Rod Meredith for the false prophet he is.  Scriptures states that if a man utters even ONE false prophecy then he is a liar and not to be followed.  So why is Thiel still following a liar?

Thiel: God Caused Gas Prices To Drop So LCG Could Go To The Feast

I never cease to be amazed at the magical "god" that works behind the scenes for COG members. In their eyes everything that happens around them is either controlled by their "god" or by satan.

We are now close to the Feast of Tabernacles, the yearly COG extravaganza for worldwide vacations and festivals of gluttony and excess.  God's Apostle always said that as future Kings and Priests we are to have the best that the world has to offer.  We deserve to travel to exotic locations!

So in order for that to happen God has personally had a hand in lowering the gas prices so that LCGers can have more money to spend at the Feast or to turn in for excess second tither.  I can only imagine that if gas prices had went up it would have been satan''s attempt at preventing the True Church of God from attending the Feast.

Thiel's magical "god" has done the following for him and the Living Church of God.

For the last several years, oil prices have dropped right around the time of the fall Holy Days (fall in the northern hemisphere, that is). This year appears to be the same. Gasoline (petrol) prices have been dropping for the last several weeks now. Monday, oil reached its lowest price since September 2010. It ended trading in New York at $78 per barrel. Experts believe it will stay low to year’s end (Associated Press, October 3, 2011).
Thousands of years ago, God gave His people the command to keep His annual festivals, including the Feast of Tabernacles (see Leviticus 23). These days were to be statutes “forever” and blessings were promised to those who keep them, and the rest of God’s laws (Deuteronomy 14:29).

It is both interesting and encouraging to see a trend in dropping gasoline prices (which some would call “chance”) just prior to the “pilgrim” Feast of Tabernacles–a time when God’s people are commanded to travel to locations where He has chosen to place His name (Deuteronomy 14:22-26). In allowing fuel prices to drop, God is blessing the obedience of His people who are willing to travel to worship Him at this very important time of year.
